Mostly games are played as draw and stud games and has betting limits. These limits are explained to each player before initiating the game. The bets and raises cannot be higher than that. Limits are usually around $3 to $6 during the first couple of poker betting rounds. In second betting round, betting limits increase to additional $3. In last two rounds, you can increase your betting amount by $6.

In pot limit games, the betting amount will depend upon the limit of the bet. Different casinos offer different pot limits. In no pot limit games, you can bet as many chips as you want. But once you will be done with the chips, you cannot increase the bet. In that case, you will be considered as a looser. So in no pot limit poker game, you must buy as much chips as you can prior to game. You can bet those chips later; rationally. You will not be able to claim to these chips later on.
